Reflections from the EFCS Coordinators Meeting in Hamburg June 25-27 2010
The EFCS Coordinators Meeting was held in Hamburg June 25-27, exactly one year before the big event in 2011.
22 persons from 12 different countries participated in this meeting.
Hamburg is a nice town and has a lot of opportunities. Good sports venues of high quality and lots of hotels, located at different places, close to the central station, meeting centre, sport arenas etc.
All registrations will be carried out on the web site. A new web site is under construction and will be launched 2 to 3 weeks after the Co-ordinators’ Meeting. This means that registrations can be made individually. It is important that one responsible person from each country gets information regarding all registrations made for his/her country.
The members of the Organisation complement each other and have good experience from different sports and events. There might be some parts of coordination missing.
During the meeting we visited a number of sport venues, just to see them and have a chance to put questions. All venues will be marked up on the new web site. When you select sport discipline, then you will find out where the respective venue is located.
For some sports there will be more than one venue, but in most cases they are located close to each other.
The meeting centre will be used as a registration and meeting point with dinner in the evenings. It will also act as a secretariat during the games. Also countries can have information blocks regarding common events or information on other countries, which they want to share. The meeting point can receive up to 8,000 participants.
Transport will be arranged using public services. Each participant will receive a travel pass for free transport on buses, metro (U- and S-Bahn = tube/metro service) and also ferries. This necessitates good coordination from the organisation. All hotels, venues and the meeting point must have public transport access.
Hamburg has a lot of hotels, so there won’t be any problems with accommodation. A separate organisation will help to accomplish the bookings, which will all be made via the web site. On the web site you will get all needed information regarding hotel standards, locations etc. Bulletin 2 will publish categories and prices.
The EFCS games 2011 in Hamburg will be an event to remember.
