Erasmus+ project Sports Club for Health announce the launch of the SCforH online course

EFCS as a partner in the Erasmus+ Sports Club for Health (SCforH) programme is happy to announce the launch of the SCforH online course

Improving population health through sports clubs and organisations

 Physical inactivity is a key risk factor for non-communicable diseases. It is responsible for approximately one million premature deaths in Europe each year. In spite of public health efforts to promote health-enhancing physical activity (HEPA), many people remain insufficiently active.

Sports club participation is a major contributor to the overall level of HEPA. Improving the offer and quality of programmes in sports clubs may, therefore, help increase the level of HEPA in the European population. To facilitate this, since 2009, we have carried out three large Sports Club for Health (SCforH) projects, funded by the European Commission with more than one million euros.

How to apply the SCforH approach?

Through consultations with various stakeholders in the areas of sport and health, an expert group has recently developed a free 30-minute SCforH online course. The course is available in 25 European languages. All stakeholders in the sports sector are encouraged to complete the course and earn a Certificate.

Useful information on applying the SCforH approach can also be found in the SCforH guidelines, textbook, and how-to HYPERLINK "https://www.scforh.info/how-to/sports-associations/introduction/" guide, all of which are available on the SCforH website.

The benefits of applying the SCforH approach are manifold

By adopting the SCforH approach, a sports club or organisation can differentiate itself from other providers of fitness and sports programmes and, in that way, gain a significant marketing advantage. Quality programmes that are not directed exclusively towards achieving top results in sports competitions will attract wider audiences, provide opportunities for people in all age groups to join the membership, increase participation rates, and reduce drop-out rates.

Applying the SCforH approach can also reveal new opportunities to form partnerships with policymakers, researchers, and practitioners in the health sector, and make the sports club or organisation become eligible for a wider range of funding opportunities.

Join the SCforH movement

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the operation of many sports clubs and organisation is currently limited. However, in the post-COVID era, the sports sector will play a major role in the regeneration of the community, by promoting HEPA. The SCforH approach is an excellent tool that may help sports clubs and organisations to prepare themselves for this challenge.

Take the online course now to learn more about SCforH, and join us in the largest European initiative for the promotion of health-enhancing sports activity!

European Company Sport Games 2021 postponed to 2022

Dear EFCS members,

The COVID-19 affects us all, some of you harder and we hope the current tension situation will be brought under control. The organization of the European Company Sports Games were also affected. Because of the health risk and the position of the Dutch government, the European Federation for Company Sport, in agreement with the local organizing committee for the European Games in Arnhem and all its partners, first informed you last months ago of the postponement of the Games promotion operations and the postponement of opening of the registration campaign.

Given the risks that continue to weigh, the postponement of the World Company Sport Games in Athens to June 2021 and especially the instructions and government directives of the Netherlands, the European Company Sport Games will, as you might expect, be postponed to from 22nd to 26th June 2022.
By taking this decision now, we want to provide timely clarity and transparency to all the national federations, companies, participants and all those involved in the organization of the Arnhem Games to organize themselves and plan a participation massive for 2022.

The local organising committee, in consultation with the EFCS, will continue working tirelessly to identify all the consequences of this decision, so that we all can enjoy an unforgettable edition in 2022. We will also set really soon a new date for the very important coordinators meeting, traditionally planned one year before the Games.
Of course, we will also keep you informed about all other developments.

For any further questions, do not hesitate to contact Marcel van de Goor (Team TOC - marcel@teamtoc.nl) or Ron van Gent (Stichting NlOM! - Gent@vnoncw-mkb.nl).

As all of you, we look forward to a return to normal situation and hope to welcome you all in the Netherlands for a successful 2022 edition.

For now: save yourself, stay safe and healthy!
Best regards,

The local organizing committee of the European Company Sport Games & The EFCS Executive committee

HEMA project launches European wide questionnaire

The European Federation for Company Sport is strongly engaged in the development of company sport and grassroots sports at EU levels through the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

In the framework of the HEMA project, Healthy Employee Mobile and Active, we are looking for your help and engagement.

HEMA in a nutshell

“Healthy Employee, Mobile and Active” (HEMA) is a 3-year program intended to tackle the high level of physical inactivity in Europe. HEMA is supported and co-funded by the European Commission in the field of Erasmus+ program and European Week of Sport. The project aims at leveraging physical activity rates by combining sport, physical activity and mobility. The concept of HEMA is to associate moments of practicing sport to specific discussions and studies around ways of implementation of physical activity and mobility in European workplaces.

One major aspect of HEMA legacy will concern the development and transfer of specific and adapted programs to EU workplaces to help them implementing concrete sport and mobility activities at work.

HEMA contribution

The project is carrying out a European state-of-art report on the current programmes available for promoting physical activity and active mobility at work in Europe, a survey targeted to employers and employees to identify major levers and brakes in providing and participating in such programmes, and a framework for pilot testing of such programmes over three months in Belgium, France and Latvia in 2021.

The survey is currently open and can be accessed in different languages.

EFCS launches WAC: Workplace Active Certification

Official kick-off meeting of the WAC project

The European Federation for Company Sport has launched its latest European project, Erasmus+, in Paris on the 4th of February 2020. This project will gather 10 partners from over Europe to offer concrete solutions to the creation of a European-wide certification on health, wellness, physical activity in the workplace.

Partners were invited at INSEP, high level performance training centre for French Athletes. After a guided tour of the facilities, partners participated in their first meeting.

The WAC project, for Workplace Active Certification, is a two-year project which follows the path of a previous Erasmus+ Project, EMoCS – European Meeting of Company Sport. The EMoCS project showed the need for a unique certification for companies to promote their initiatives towards wellbeing, wellness, health with regards to physical activity.

The WAC project kick-offs where EMoCS left off. WAC will today work on the creation of the certification. A first draft and test version will be launched during the 2020 European Week of Sport. After the evaluation process, the certification will officially be launched during the 2021 European Week of Sport. The first applicants will be evaluated in 2022 for an official certification award during the 2022 European Week of Sport.

Role of EFCS

  • Define the certification criteria, build a method to select applications and to propose the final version of the certification with regards to the pilot phase;
  • Elaborate self-evaluation tools and processes for applicants, build a training programme and content for auditors and define quality controls;
  • Establish a programme and matrix for the pilot tests, identify the companies and evaluate the pilot test;
  • Support the intellectual outputs and certification overall by implementing strategic event actions;
