WHAT?

The European Workplaces: Be Active (EWBA) is a one-year EU Co-funded project that aims to promote physical activity in workplaces across Europe. This initiative is part of the context of rising sedentary behavior among Europeans, which is particularly evident in the workplace.

According to the Eurobarometer report commissioned by the European Commission in 2022, “45% of Europeans never engage in sports or physical activity.” This already high figure continues to grow each year, even though physical activity is a key defense against non-communicable diseases and premature deaths (WHO, 2021).

HOW?

The project is structured around a connected challenge and the organization of a physical sporting event.

The digital challenge is modeled after the E-RUN FOR DIVERSITY: a competition among employees from partner companies in different countries, encouraging them to engage in physical activity over a set period. Each participant will log their sports performances in a dedicated app to accumulate points and win the challenge. In addition to points earned through physical activity, participants can gain extra points by completing daily thematic challenges and quizzes available on the app.

The physical sporting event is inspired from the FFSE national and regional games and will be held during the European Week of Sport in September 2026. National federations will organize a multi-sport event tailored to local demands and organizational constraints.

WHY?

Encouraging Europeans to Be Physically Active

Through these two approaches, EWBA aims to engage and mobilize as many employees as possible in this competition, which is designed to be supportive and inclusive. The challenges are open to everyone, regardless of their fitness level.

The goal is to foster a positive dynamic among colleagues within each company, creating a sense of cohesion where the most active individuals inspire the more sedentary ones.

Every activity, no matter how brief, counts toward the final ranking, which will be based on performance by country, company or subsidiary, and individual or duo results.
